Many patients have limited or no gingiva (gum tissue) around their teeth, and the majority of them do fine. However, sometimes the lack of gingiva might interfere with proper oral hygiene procedures (such as brushing and flossing). When this is the case, a free gingival graft might be indicated. If you need a free gingival graft and you are located in Rochester, NY contact Dr. Geminiani.
Here is an example. Before the procedure this patient could not brush his front teeth with ease. He was frequently complaining about hurting himself while brushing (the white round lesion is a self-inflicted lesion). After the free gingival graft a nice band of healthy gingiva is present, and the patient can easily brush the area.
If you want to know more about indications and contraindications to free gingival graft, and how the procedure is done step-by-step, read my post on free gingival graft and see more Before and After.
